Reviews setup checklist

Connect your orders, add the Cevoid script to your store, and publish a review request flow so Reviews collects reviews after every purchase.

Reviews needs three things before it collects reviews: your orders, the Cevoid script on your store, and a flow that sends review requests. This checklist covers each step in the order the app lists them, plus your legal policies, which the list doesn't show. If you don't have a workspace yet, start with Create your workspace.

Navigate to Reviews → Overview to see which steps are still open. The Things to do list shows every step you haven't finished, and a step disappears once it's done.

Your Reviews plan

Working with Reviews needs an active Reviews plan. Every plan has every Reviews feature and covers a number of orders per month. To add Reviews or change your limit, see Plans that include Reviews.

On Shopify, Reviews also has its own Shopify app, Cevoid: Reviews Platform. You install it when you add the Cevoid script: see Add the Cevoid script.

Connect your orders

Review requests start from orders: a flow sends a request a set time after an order is fulfilled or delivered. Cevoid also uses your orders to mark reviews Verified buyer. New workspaces start with order sync off.

Enable Sync orders in Settings → Orders to sync orders from every Shopify store connected to your workspace. Your store shows Enabled once its orders sync. For the steps, see Turn on order sync. To connect a store first, see Shopify.

Flows that start on Order delivered need delivery events from Shopify: see Enable delivery events on Shopify.

Enable Sync orders in Settings → Orders to sync orders from your connected WooCommerce store. Your store shows Enabled once its orders sync. For the steps, see Turn on order sync. To connect your store first, see WooCommerce.

Note:

WooCommerce orders count as fulfilled when their status is Completed, and they're never marked delivered. Start your review request flows on Order fulfilled: a flow that starts on Order delivered never runs for WooCommerce orders.

Review request emails that Cevoid sends go only to customers who agreed to marketing email. See Who gets a review request.

On other platforms and headless builds, your own system sends each order to the Cevoid API, which needs server-side code from you or your developer. Orders sent through the API need no Sync orders switch. For the API key and the request, see Send orders through the API.

To check each store's order sync status, see Check order sync for stores and markets.

Order history you import doesn't get review requests and doesn't count toward your monthly order limit. Cevoid still uses it to mark reviews Verified buyer.

Add the Cevoid script

The Cevoid script loads review widgets and the review forms on your store. Review request links open the review form on your store too, so the script goes on every page.

  • On Shopify: install the Reviews app, Cevoid: Reviews Platform, and turn on its app embed, Cevoid Reviews
  • On other platforms: paste the script into your site, right before the closing </head> tag. See Add the Cevoid script.

In Things to do, click Add script next to Add the Cevoid script to your website. The Install the Cevoid script dialog opens: for its steps, see Add the Cevoid script. The step in Things to do closes once every market shows Installed.

To add review widgets to your pages once the script is in place, see Embed review widgets.

Review forms show your content consent policy by the button on the Review step, so reviewers agree to your terms before they submit. It's the same policy your upload forms show. Write and publish it in Settings → Legal: see Activate content consent and Consent on review forms.

Start collecting product and company reviews

Review requests are sent by flows. The quickest start is the suggested flow Review request after delivery: it asks customers for product reviews, and asks customers who have reviewed every product in their order for a company review. Publishing it completes both Start collecting steps in Things to do.

In Things to do, click Open flows next to either step. For the steps, see Set up the suggested review request flow.

The suggested flow starts on Order delivered. On WooCommerce, and on Shopify stores whose carriers don't report deliveries, start a flow on Order fulfilled instead: see Create a review request flow from scratch. For timing, reminders, and other ways to send requests, see Review requests.

Import existing reviews

If you're moving from another reviews platform, import your existing reviews so your product pages show them from day one. This step is optional, and it's done once your workspace has any review. To import a CSV file from your previous platform, see Import and export reviews.

Tip:

Import your existing reviews before you send requests to past orders. Customers who already reviewed a product are then skipped.

Troubleshooting

Why does the script step stay open?

The Add the Cevoid script to your website step in Things to do closes only when every market reports Installed. After you save your theme or publish your site, click Check status in the Install the Cevoid script dialog. A password-protected Shopify storefront, such as a development store, can be checked once you save its password: see Check a password-protected storefront. For what each status means, see Check the Cevoid script.

Why does the orders step stay open?

The Connect your orders step in Things to do closes when Sync orders is on in Settings → Orders. Enable it, then click Check status next to Stores to confirm that your store's orders arrive.
