Verified reviews
Cevoid confirms who wrote each review and matches it to your orders, so shoppers see a Verified buyer or Verified identity badge.
Cevoid confirms who wrote every review before the review is saved, and matches reviews to your synced orders to show which reviewers bought the product. Shoppers see one badge on each review: Verified buyer or Verified identity. There's nothing to turn on: it works for every review.
Navigate to Reviews → Product reviews or Reviews → Company reviews to see which reviews are verified. Verified reviews show Verified buyer next to the reviewer's name.
How Cevoid confirms who wrote a review
Cevoid confirms every reviewer before it saves their review, so reviews from unconfirmed visitors never reach your lists or your store. How it confirms them depends on where the review was written.
| Where the review was written | How Cevoid confirms the reviewer | When it's Verified buyer |
|---|---|---|
| A review request email | The link in the email belongs to the customer the request went to, so no code is needed | Always: the review is tied to the request's order |
| A Write a review button, or a link to the form | The customer enters their email and a 5-digit code Cevoid sends to it | When an order with the reviewer's email contains the product |
| A Shopify customer account | The customer is logged in to their account, so no code is needed | When an order with the reviewer's email contains the product |
| A CSV import | Cevoid uses the reviewer email in your file | When an order synced before the import matches |
A request link works without a code until the request expires, 90 days after it was first sent. After that, the link still opens the form, but asks for the code.
Email codes
Customers who write a review from a button or a link confirm their email with a code before the review is saved.
- The code has 5 digits and is valid for 10 minutes. The customer can ask for a new code after 60 seconds.
- Cevoid sends it in the Identity verification code email, in the language of the store's market. The email is always on, and you can edit it: see Review emails.
- Once confirmed, the browser remembers the customer for 30 days, so their next review on that browser needs no code
- A customer with no profile in Cevoid gets one when they confirm. It doesn't make them a member of your loyalty program.
How Verified buyer works
Verified buyer means Cevoid matched the review to an order. Cevoid matches orders it has synced, so how far back your order history goes decides how many reviews can be verified. To sync orders and import your order history, see Order settings.
- Reviews from a review request: Cevoid ties the review to the request's order
- Reviews from a button, a link, or a Shopify customer account: Cevoid looks for the newest synced order placed with the reviewer's email that contains the product, in any variant. For a company review, any order counts. There's no time limit on the order.
- Changes to orders: Cevoid checks these reviews again when an order changes. An order that syncs after the review can verify it. When the matching order, or the product on it, is removed, the review loses the badge unless another order matches.
- Imported reviews: Cevoid matches them once, at import, against the orders already synced. Orders that sync later don't verify them.
No one on your team can add or remove Verified buyer by hand. The badge carries over when your team converts a review between a product review and a company review.
Badges shoppers see
Each review on your store shows one verification badge next to the reviewer's name. Shoppers see its explanation when they hover over it.
| Badge | Shown when | Explanation shoppers see |
|---|---|---|
| Verified buyer | The review is matched to an order | "This review was written by someone who bought the product." |
| Verified identity | No order matches. The reviewer confirmed who they are | "This reviewer's identity has been confirmed." |
Every review on your store has a confirmed reviewer, so a review without Verified buyer shows Verified identity. That includes imported reviews.
To hide the badge in a widget, turn off the Verified badge field in the widget's card settings. See Review widget settings.
Find verified reviews
Filter by verification in your review lists, in Profiles, and on your store.
| Where | Filter | What it finds |
|---|---|---|
| Reviews → Product reviews and Reviews → Company reviews | Verified: Verified buyer | Reviews matched to an order |
| The same lists | Verified: Verified identity | Every review in the list, since every listed reviewer is confirmed |
| Profiles | Verified buyer, under Reviews | Reviewers with a verified review |
| Review widgets on your store | Verified purchases | What shoppers pick to see only Verified buyer reviews. See Review widgets |
Insider reviews
Cevoid marks a review as written by an insider when the reviewer's email domain is one of your store's domains. Shoppers see an Insider badge on it, with the explanation "This review was written by someone who works for the brand."
- Cevoid compares the email's domain with your Storefront domain in workspace settings and each market's Domain in Products and markets, without
www. - The match is exact. An email on a subdomain, such as
name@team.yourstore.com, isn't marked. - It applies to reviews written in the review form. For imported reviews, the file's Is insider column sets it.
- Your team can mark or unmark any review as written by an insider: see Review details
Widget settings can't hide the Insider badge.
Troubleshooting
Why doesn't a review show Verified buyer?
Reviews from a review request always show Verified buyer. For any other review, Cevoid found no synced order that matches it. Check these:
- The order isn't in Cevoid. Check that your orders sync in Settings → Orders.
- The emails differ. The customer placed the order with one email and confirmed another when they wrote the review.
- The product isn't matched. The order's product isn't matched to a product in your catalog.
- The review was imported. The order synced after the import.
Why can't a customer get an email code?
Cevoid limits how many codes a customer can use. One email can get 10 codes in 5 minutes, and 10 wrong codes in 5 minutes cancel the codes sent so far. The form then shows Too many attempts and how long to wait. Ask the customer to check their spam folder for the Identity verification code email, and to wait before trying again.
