Funnel reports
Build funnel reports to see how many visitors move from one step to the next, such as from viewing a post to clicking it.
A funnel report lines up steps in order and shows how many get from one step to the next. Use it to see where visitors drop off, for example between viewing a post and clicking a product tag, or between opening an upload form and completing an upload.
Navigate to Analytics → Reports to create and open funnel reports.
How funnel reports work
Funnel reports have their own tab in the report builder: Funnel, next to Insights. Each step of a funnel report is a metric.
- A funnel report has 2 to 8 steps
- All steps come from the same funnel. Once you pick the first step, only metrics from that step's funnel can be added.
- You can use any of a funnel's steps, for example impressions, clicks, and orders, and drag them into the order you want
- The funnel names below aren't shown in the builder. They only decide which steps go together.
Cevoid has six funnels. What a funnel counts depends on the funnel: sessions (visits to your store), Instagram requests, or Instagram posts.
| Funnel | Module | Counts | Steps, in order |
|---|---|---|---|
| Post interaction funnel | UGC | Sessions | Post impressions, Post popup impressions, Post clicks, Post product tag clicks, Orders |
| Instagram post lifecycle funnel | UGC | Instagram posts | Instagram posts detected, Instagram posts accessed |
| Instagram request funnel | UGC | Requests | Instagram requests sent, Instagram requests declined, Instagram posts accessed |
| Customer uploads funnel | UGC | Sessions | Upload form impressions, Uploads started, Uploads completed |
| Activity engagement funnel | Loyalty program | Sessions | Activity reach, Activity clicks, Activity started, Activity submitted |
| Points shop engagement funnel | Loyalty program | Sessions | Redeemable reward reach, Redeemable reward clicks, Redeemable reward redeemed |
What each step counts is in UGC analytics, Loyalty program analytics, and Sales analytics.
Create a funnel report
- Navigate to Analytics → Reports and click Create report
- Select the Funnel tab at the top of the sidebar
- In Metrics, click Add
- Select the metrics for your steps, all from the same funnel
- Click Apply. The steps appear in the sidebar, numbered in order.
- Optional: Drag the steps into the order you want
- Click Save report. A dialog opens with a suggested name.
- Enter a name for the report and click Save report
Before you save, you can also add a breakdown and filters: see Break down and filter a funnel report.
The Add button is disabled once a funnel report has 8 steps.
You can also select the Funnel tab on an existing report. The funnel then starts with no steps, and saving replaces the report's chart with the funnel. To keep the original report, click Save as new instead of Save.
Closed and open funnels
Funnel reports are closed funnels by default. The Open funnel setting changes how a step counts.
| Funnel type | How a step counts |
|---|---|
| Closed (default) | A visitor, request, or post counts at a step only after completing the earlier steps, in order, within two years |
| Open | Each step counts on its own, so visitors can enter the funnel at any step |
To make a funnel report open:
- Navigate to Analytics → Reports and open the funnel report
- Enable Open funnel in the Settings section of the sidebar
- Click Save, or Save as new for a default report
Break down and filter a funnel report
Funnel report breakdowns and filters come from a fixed set per funnel.
- Breakdowns: The chart always shows the whole funnel. The breakdown appears only in the table under the chart, with one row per value and one column per step.
- Filters: Narrow the funnel to the visitors, requests, or posts that match. Filters a funnel can't apply show Not available for funnel reports.
- Never offered: Breakdowns where one item can have several values, such as Segment, Profile label, Post label, and product breakdowns
| Funnel | Breakdowns |
|---|---|
| Post interaction funnel | Date, Market, Profile, Is trackable, and, when Orders isn't a step, Widget, Display solution, and Post |
| Instagram post lifecycle funnel | Date, Profile, Instagram account, Instagram source type, Hashtag, Instagram post type, Instagram post access method, Instagram request method |
| Instagram request funnel | Date, Profile, Instagram account, Instagram source type, Hashtag, Instagram post type, Instagram request method |
| Customer uploads funnel | Date, Form, Upload interface, Market, Profile, Is trackable |
| Activity engagement funnel | Date, Activity, Activity type, Activity status, Market, Profile, Is trackable, Widget, Display solution |
| Points shop engagement funnel | Date, Redeemable reward, Reward type, Discount code type, Redeemable reward status, Market, Profile, Is trackable, Widget, Display solution, Required points |
Every breakdown except Date and Required points is also a filter. What each breakdown means is in How metrics work.
- A session counts in the row of every widget, display solution, or post it touched, so Widget, Display solution, and Post rows can add up to more than the funnel total
- In the post interaction funnel, Profile is the creator of the post, not the visitor
The Orders step
The Orders step is part of the post interaction funnel only. It counts orders from sales tracking that are linked to the same session. Only trackable sessions can be linked to an order: see Session tracking and consent.
Orders aren't tied to a widget or a post, so Orders can't share a funnel report with a Widget, Display solution, or Post breakdown or filter:
- With Orders as a step, those breakdowns and filters are unavailable. Remove Orders to use them.
- With one of them selected, Orders can't be added as a step. Remove that breakdown or filter first.
Comparison in funnel reports
Funnel reports don't support comparison. On the Funnel tab, the comparison dropdown is disabled. On a dashboard, a funnel panel ignores the dashboard's comparison and shows the current period only.
The disabled dropdown can still show a saved comparison, such as Comparison: Previous period on the two default funnel reports. The funnel shows the current period only either way. Hover over the dropdown to see Funnel reports don't support period comparisons.
What a funnel report shows
A funnel report shows one column per step, from left to right. Scroll sideways when there are many steps. Each column shows:
- The step's name. Hover over it to see the metric's description.
- The percentage of the first step that reached this step, in large text
- The number counted at the step
- A colored bar, with a shaded slope down to the next step that shows the drop-off
A headline value above the chart shows the share of the first step that reached the last step. The chart's title is the last step plus what the funnel counts, such as Uploads completed by session, by request, or by post. With a breakdown, the table under the chart has one row per value and one column per step.
Default funnel reports
Every workspace has two default funnel reports. Both are closed funnels, and both open on the Funnel tab.
| Report | Steps |
|---|---|
| Post interaction funnel | Post impressions, Post popup impressions, Post clicks |
| Customer uploads funnel | Upload form impressions, Uploads started, Uploads completed |
Default reports are read-only. You can change them in the builder, but you keep your changes only by saving them as a new report. See Reports.
The loyalty program's default reports Activity funnel and Reward funnel are line charts of these metrics over time, not funnel reports. To see the steps as a funnel, build a funnel report from the activity engagement funnel or the points shop engagement funnel.
Funnel reports on dashboards
Add a funnel report to a dashboard like any other report: see Dashboards. A funnel panel is 6 columns wide and 8 rows tall when added. It ignores the dashboard's comparison. On short panels, the funnel collapses to a compact value.
