Points
Choose who manages your points, name them, and set when they expire.
Points are the currency of your loyalty program. Members earn points through purchase incentives and activities, then redeem them for rewards. Choose who manages your points, customize how they're named and displayed, and set if and when they expire.
Navigate to Settings → Loyalty → Points to manage your points.
Points provider
The Points provider setting decides where your members' points are kept.
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Cevoid | All points are managed through Cevoid. This is the default |
| Voyado | Points are managed in Voyado. Available once Voyado is connected: see Voyado |
Use Voyado as points provider to keep your existing Voyado loyalty points instead of Cevoid's points system. This lets you combine Cevoid's engagement features (activities, challenges, widgets) with your established Voyado loyalty program. With Voyado as points provider:
- Every points award, such as points from purchase incentives, points rewards, and manual adjustments, goes to the member's contact in Voyado. Cevoid keeps no points balance.
- A member without a Voyado contact gets no points
- Points don't count toward Points earned tier milestones, and program widgets don't show the points members have in Voyado
- Members can't redeem redeemable rewards with points
- Points aren't deducted when an order is refunded
- The Points expiration settings are hidden
Use Voyado as points provider
- Navigate to Settings → Loyalty → Points
- Select Voyado in the Points provider setting
- Click Save changes
Points name and icon
The Points branding settings control how points are named and displayed in your program widgets. A preview shows your name and icon on sample amounts as you edit them.
Instead of "points," give your points a custom name that fits your brand. For example:
- Coins
- Stars
- Gems
- Petals (for a flower brand)
- Miles (for a travel brand)
- Beans (for a coffee brand)
Set both a singular form, such as "coin", and a plural form, such as "coins", so the grammar is correct throughout your program. The defaults are point and points.
Upload a custom points icon to display next to points amounts in your program widgets. The icon adds visual branding and makes points feel more tangible. The recommended dimensions are 256×256 px.
Change your points name
- Navigate to Settings → Loyalty → Points
- Enter your custom name in the Singular and Plural fields under Points branding
- Click Save changes
The page shows whether your points name is translated, with a Change here link to the translation settings.
Your points name is automatically translated for each of your markets. To keep a branded name in every language, set Name of points to Should not be translated under Translation exceptions in Settings → Translations.
Upload a custom points icon
- Navigate to Settings → Loyalty → Points
- Click Browse under Custom points icon
- Select an image or SVG file
- Crop the image and click Save and exit. SVG files skip this step.
- Click Save changes
Points expiration
Points expiration determines if and when members lose unused points. By default, points never expire, which keeps your program simple and lets you add expiration later if needed. You can also set points to expire based on time or member activity. The Points expiration settings show only when Points provider is Cevoid.
When members redeem points, Cevoid automatically uses points with the closest expiration date first (first in, first out). This helps members avoid losing points.
All expiration times are based on your workspace timezone setting. Points expire at 23:59:59 on the expiration date, so members can use their points through the entire expiration day.
| Expiration method | How it works |
|---|---|
| Points never expire | Members keep all their points indefinitely. |
| Rolling expiration with minimum period | Points earned in the same month expire together at the end of that month, X months later. |
| Individual expiration with minimum period | Points expire at the end of the member's anniversary month, at least X months after they were earned. |
| Collective expiration with minimum period | All points expire at the end of a month you choose, at least X months after they were earned. |
| Inactivity-based expiration | Points expire at the end of the month, X months after the member's last activity. Activity resets the countdown. |
Method: Points never expire
How it works: Points never expire. Members can accumulate and use points at any time.
Method: Rolling expiration with minimum period
How it works: Points earned in the same month expire together at the end of that month, X months later.
For example, with a 24-month period, points earned on January 4th, January 15th, and January 28th all expire on January 31st, two years later. Points expire on predictable monthly dates instead of daily.
Available expiration periods: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, or 48 months. The default is 24 months.
Example with 24-month expiration:
| Member | Points earned | Earned date | Expiration date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alice | 100 | 2026-01-04 | 2028-01-31 at 23:59:59 |
| Bob | 150 | 2026-01-05 | 2028-01-31 at 23:59:59 |
| Carol | 200 | 2026-01-06 | 2028-01-31 at 23:59:59 |
| David | 125 | 2026-05-07 | 2028-05-31 at 23:59:59 |
| Eve | 175 | 2026-12-23 | 2028-12-31 at 23:59:59 |
Method: Individual expiration with minimum period
How it works: Points expire at the end of the member's anniversary month, at least X months after they were earned.
A member's anniversary month is the month they joined the program. For example, if a member joined in March, their points always expire at the end of a March. Each member has one personal expiration date per year.
Points expire at the end of the first anniversary month that falls at least the chosen period after they were earned. For example, with a 24-month period and March as the anniversary month, points earned in January 2025 expire at the end of March 2027, while points earned in April 2025 expire at the end of March 2028.
Available expiration periods: 12, 24, 36, or 48 months. The default is 24 months.
Example with 24-month expiration:
| Member | Join date | Points earned | Earned date | Expiration date |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alice | 2023-03-15 | 100 | 2025-01-15 | 2027-03-31 at 23:59:59 |
| Bob | 2023-03-15 | 150 | 2025-03-10 | 2027-03-31 at 23:59:59 |
| Carol | 2023-03-15 | 200 | 2025-05-20 | 2028-03-31 at 23:59:59 |
| David | 2023-03-15 | 125 | 2025-12-01 | 2028-03-31 at 23:59:59 |
| Eve | 2022-11-08 | 175 | 2025-06-15 | 2027-11-30 at 23:59:59 |
Method: Collective expiration with minimum period
How it works: All points expire at the end of a month you choose (for example, December 31st), at least X months after they were earned.
Every member shares the same expiration date, so you can communicate a single yearly deadline to all members.
Available expiration periods: 12, 24, 36, or 48 months. The default is 24 months.
Expiration day options: The last day of any month, from January 31st and Last day of February to December 31st. The default is December 31st.
Example with 24-month expiration and December 31st expiration day:
| Member | Points earned | Earned date | Expiration date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alice | 100 | 2026-01-04 | 2028-12-31 at 23:59:59 |
| Bob | 150 | 2026-01-05 | 2028-12-31 at 23:59:59 |
| Carol | 200 | 2026-01-06 | 2028-12-31 at 23:59:59 |
| David | 125 | 2026-05-07 | 2028-12-31 at 23:59:59 |
| Eve | 175 | 2026-12-23 | 2028-12-31 at 23:59:59 |
Method: Inactivity-based expiration
How it works: Points expire at the end of the month, X months after the member's last qualifying activity.
All points in the member's account share the same expiration date. When a member completes a qualifying activity, the expiration date resets for their entire balance. This encourages members to stay active in your program.
Available expiration periods: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, or 48 months. The default is 24 months.
Qualifying actions: Select at least one in Qualifying actions that reset expiration:
- Completes a Purchase incentive
- Completes any Activity
- Redeems a reward with points
Example with 24-month expiration:
| Member | Last activity | Earned date | Expiration date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alice | 2025-01-15 | 2024-12-01 | 2027-01-31 at 23:59:59 |
| Bob | 2025-02-20 | 2024-11-10 | 2027-02-28 at 23:59:59 |
| Carol | 2025-04-10 | 2025-01-05 | 2027-04-30 at 23:59:59 |
| David | 2025-06-05 | 2025-03-15 | 2027-06-30 at 23:59:59 |
| Eve | 2024-09-20 | 2024-09-20 | 2026-09-30 at 23:59:59 |

Member fairness
When you change the expiration method, Cevoid ensures member fairness: no points are lost during migration, and no points expire sooner than they currently would. This protects members who earned points under your previous settings and maintains trust in your program.
The migration takes about 1 minute per 1,000 members. While it runs, some actions in the platform are unavailable, and your program settings can't be saved.
Expiration reminder emails
With every expiration method except Points never expire, Cevoid sends reminders before points expire. Set their timing in Send reminder emails before points expire.
| Reminder | Default | Range | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| days before (friendly reminder) | 30 days before | 1-120 days | A gentle reminder about upcoming expiration |
| days before (last reminder) | 7 days before | 1-90 days | Final reminder before points expire |
The friendly reminder must be more days before expiration than the last reminder.
Each reminder starts your flows on Points expiration approaching, which can email the member a Points expiration friendly reminder or Points expiration last reminder with the points that will expire and their expiration date. See Send program emails with flows. It also goes to your CRM as the Points Expiration Reminder trigger, once you've enabled it in your integration. A flow on Points expiration approaching can send the reminder to Klaviyo, Voyado, or a webhook as well: see Actions.
