General program settings
Name your loyalty program, choose how members log in, and set how customers become members, from automatic enrollment to invite only.
General program settings hold your loyalty program's name, the authentication method members log in with, and the opt-in rule that decides how customers become members. Your team can also add and remove members by hand, from their profiles.
Navigate to Settings → Loyalty → General to manage your general program settings.
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Program name | Your program's name, in the app and in your program widgets: see Program name |
| Authentication | How members log in to your program widgets: see Available authentication methods |

Program name
Program name is the name of your loyalty program. A new program is named after your workspace's username, followed by "program". The name shows:
- As the title of the Loyalty page in Cevoid
- At the top of the member's card in the Account summary and My account sections of your program widgets
- On the email preferences page that members open with Manage email preferences in an email
- As the name of the Shopify page Cevoid creates for your Full landing page
The program name isn't translated: members see it as you enter it, in every language.
Change the program name
- Navigate to Settings → Loyalty → General
- Enter the new name in Program name under General
- Click Save changes
Available authentication methods
The authentication method decides how members log in to your loyalty program widgets. Your workspace uses one method at a time. Workspaces created from a Cevoid Shopify app start with Store account authentication by Shopify, and every other workspace starts with Email authentication by Cevoid.
| Authentication method | Use for | How members log in |
|---|---|---|
| Store account authentication by Shopify | Shopify stores | With their Shopify store account |
| Email authentication by Cevoid | Stores without a login system | With their email and a verification code Cevoid sends to it |
| Custom store authentication | General implementation, headless setups, and non-Shopify platforms | Through your own system |
Use your store's existing login system so members log in to your program the same way they log in to your store. Cevoid's passwordless email login is an alternative when your store doesn't have its own login system.
Store account authentication by Shopify
With Store account authentication by Shopify, members log in with their existing Shopify store account, the same login they use for the rest of your store.
Store account authentication by Shopify needs the Loyalty program's Shopify app, Cevoid: Loyalty & Rewards, on a store with customer accounts turned on in Shopify. It's only available on Shopify workspaces. If no store has the app, or customer accounts are disabled on every store that has it, the setting resets to Email authentication by Cevoid and the page shows "Value was reset because customer accounts have been disabled in Shopify."
It's the only method that offers the opt-in rules Store account and Store account and program action: see Available opt-in rules.
Email authentication by Cevoid
With Email authentication by Cevoid, members log in through a passwordless email flow. They enter their email address and complete the login with the verification code they receive by email.
Custom store authentication
With Custom store authentication, members are authenticated through your own system. It's for general implementation, headless setups, and stores on platforms other than Shopify, and it works with the opt-in rules All customers, Widget opt-in, and Invite only.
Custom store authentication needs a server-side implementation: your server signs the customer's ID and email with a key from Cevoid (HMAC-SHA256), and you add the signature to your widget embed code. For the steps, see Custom customer authentication.
Change the authentication method
- Navigate to Settings → Loyalty → General
- Select a method in Authentication under Access and enrollment
- Click Save changes
Switching away from Store account authentication by Shopify removes the opt-in rules Store account and Store account and program action. If your program uses one of them, select another rule in Program opt-in rule before you save. Test before switching methods on a live program.
How opt-in rules work
The opt-in rule decides how and when customers become members of your loyalty program. A customer who meets the conditions of your rule becomes a member automatically. With every opt-in rule except Invite only, customers can also join from your program widgets.
Workspaces created from a Cevoid Shopify app start with Store account and program action, and every other workspace starts with Widget opt-in.
The rules you can select depend on your authentication method. Store account and Store account and program action need Store account authentication by Shopify. With Email authentication by Cevoid or Custom store authentication, select All customers, Widget opt-in, or Invite only.
Available opt-in rules
| Opt-in rule | Customers join when | Join from program widgets | Authentication methods |
|---|---|---|---|
| All customers | They place an order, create an account, or opt in through your widgets | Yes | All |
| Store account | They create an account with your store | Yes | Store account authentication by Shopify |
| Store account and program action | They have an account and either place an order or opt in through your widgets | Yes | Store account authentication by Shopify |
| Widget opt-in | They opt in through your widgets | Yes | All |
| Invite only | Someone on your team manually adds them | No | All |
Opt-in rule: All customers
With All customers, customers are enrolled automatically when they place an order or create an account with your Shopify store, and they can also join from your program widgets. With Store account authentication by Shopify, a customer who's logged in to your store is enrolled when they visit a program widget, including customers whose store account was created before the program launched.
Opt-in rule: Store account
With Store account, customers are enrolled automatically when they create an account with your store, with no purchase required. An order alone doesn't enroll them. A customer who's logged in to your store is enrolled when they visit a program widget, including customers whose store account was created before the program launched.
Opt-in rule: Store account and program action
With Store account and program action, customers are enrolled automatically when they have a store account and either place an order or opt in through your program widgets. Creating an account alone doesn't enroll them. A customer who's logged in to your store but isn't a member sees Join now in your program widgets, which opens your program opt-in consent and Join & approve.
Opt-in rule: Widget opt-in
With Widget opt-in, there's no automatic enrollment. Customers join only by opting in through your program widgets.
Opt-in rule: Invite only
With Invite only, there's no automatic enrollment and no self-enrollment: only your team adds members, by opting them in manually. Program widgets show no Join now button, and a customer who isn't a member can't sign in to or join your program from a widget.
Change the opt-in rule
- Navigate to Settings → Loyalty → General
- Select a rule in Program opt-in rule under Access and enrollment
- Click Save changes
With Widget opt-in selected, the Opt-in disclaimer field appears below the rule. Click Edit opt-in consents there to edit the consent customers accept when they join: see Legal policies.
Manually opt in a member
Your team can opt in a customer from their profile in Profiles, under every opt-in rule. With Invite only, it's the only way to add members.
Opt in an existing profile:
- Navigate to Profiles
- Open the customer's profile
- Click Opt in to program in the Program membership section
- Click Yes in Add profile to program
Opt in a new profile:
- Navigate to Profiles
- Click Create profile
- Enter the customer's email address
- Enable Manually opt-in to program
- Click Create profile
Remove a member from the program
Remove a member from your loyalty program from their profile.
- Navigate to Profiles
- Open the member's profile
- Click More in the top right corner
- Select Remove from program
- Click Remove in Remove profile from program
Members can also leave your program themselves, with Opt Out of Program in their account menu in a program widget, confirmed with Yes, opt out of program. Opting out triggers Member Left Program, and so does deleting a member's profile.
Waitlist
When your workspace's member limit is reached, customers who join your loyalty program go to the waitlist until you approve them. Members in the waitlist earn no points for purchases until then.
The waitlist is in Profiles → Waitlist. Waitlist shows in the sidebar only when it has members, and the Loyalty landing page shows how many are waiting under Things to do.
To approve every member in the waitlist:
- Navigate to Profiles → Waitlist
- Click Approve all
- Click Approve to confirm
To approve one member, click Approve on their row, or Approve in the waitlist banner on their profile page. Decline deletes their profile permanently, with all of its content, once you confirm with Delete. Approving members needs room under your member limit. A waitlisted creator can also be approved from one of their posts: click Waiting list under Status on the post's Details tab, then Approve profile & post. See Library & Inbox.

How members log in to program widgets
What members see in your program widgets depends on the authentication method.
- Store account authentication by Shopify: Sign in and Join now go to your store's login and registration pages. A customer who's logged in to your store is logged in to your program widgets.
- Email authentication by Cevoid: Sign in opens a sign-in in the widget, where the member enters their email and the verification code they receive. Join now opens a registration in the widget, where new members enter their email and the verification code, and add their name. Only with this method do members get Logout in their account menu.
- Custom store authentication: Members log in through your own site. A logged-in customer who isn't a member sees Join now.
How customers opt in through program widgets
When customers who aren't yet members interact with one of your program widgets, they're prompted to join the program. If they aren't logged in, they first need to log in or create an account.
With Store account authentication by Shopify, what a customer who's logged in to your store sees depends on the opt-in rule:
- All customers and Store account: They're enrolled automatically when they visit a program widget
- Store account and program action and Widget opt-in: They see Join now, which opens your program opt-in consent and Join & approve
- Invite only: They see no Join now button
During the opt-in flow, customers see the program opt-in consent configured in Legal policies, with any terms, conditions, or other requirements they must acknowledge before joining. Without consent text, they see a join button with no legal policy requirements. Customers enrolled automatically by a rule, or added by your team, don't see it.
Joining later doesn't earn points for earlier orders. An order earns points only if the buyer was a member when Cevoid processed it: see Which orders earn points.
