Shopify customer accounts
Let customers review their purchases and your store from their Shopify customer account, with six blocks from the Reviews app.
The Reviews app adds six blocks to Shopify's customer accounts. Customers who are logged in to their account can review what they bought, and your store, from their orders and profile, and see the reviews they've written. A review started from the account needs no email code, because the customer is already logged in.
Navigate to Reviews → On-site widgets to see the blocks. They're under Shopify Customer Accounts, which shows when your workspace has a Shopify store.
| Block | Where it shows | What customers see | Settings |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product reviews on items | Under each item on the order status page | The product's rating, and a Review product link or a Review submitted badge | Show the product's rating, Show where the review stands |
| Review order action | In an order's action menu, on the orders list and the order status page | A Review order button, which opens the form for the first product in the order still waiting for a review | None |
| Company review banner | The profile page | An invitation to review your store, until the customer has | Review action |
| Products to review | The profile page | The purchases still waiting for a review | Review action |
| My reviews | The profile page | The reviews the customer has written, which they can edit, with no way to start a new one | None |
| Reviews page | A page of its own in the account menu | The store invitation, products to review, and the customer's reviews, in that order | Review action |
Before you add the blocks
The blocks work only when all of these are true:
- The Reviews app is installed. The app is Cevoid: Reviews Platform on the Shopify App Store. You don't need the Loyalty app
- The store uses Shopify's new customer accounts. The blocks don't show in legacy customer accounts.
- Your orders sync to Cevoid. The blocks list what Cevoid has synced, not what's in Shopify, so purchases Cevoid doesn't have don't show.
- The Cevoid script is on your store, through the Cevoid Reviews app embed. Every write action opens the review form on your store.
- Your plan includes Reviews
To sync orders and add the script, see Setup checklist, which also covers installing the Reviews app.
The Shopify Customer Accounts heading shows a warning icon when something is missing. Hover over it to see the warning.
| Warning | What to do |
|---|---|
| Reviews app not installed | Install the Reviews app on your Shopify store |
| (store) uses legacy customer accounts | Switch the store to new customer accounts in Shopify admin, under Settings → Customer accounts. Then reconnect the Reviews app |
| Customer accounts version unknown for (store) | Reconnect the Reviews app in your Shopify admin, so Cevoid can check which customer accounts the store uses |
Add the blocks in Shopify
Add the blocks in Shopify's checkout and accounts editor. The settings of each block are there too: Cevoid has no settings for them.
- Navigate to Reviews → On-site widgets
- Click a block under Shopify Customer Accounts. Shopify admin opens its Customer accounts settings in a new tab.
- Open the checkout and accounts editor in Shopify
- Add the blocks you want: Company review banner, Products to review, and My reviews go on the profile page, Product reviews on items on the order status page, Review order action on the orders list and the order status page, and Reviews page is a page of its own
- Optional: Change a block's settings
- Save your changes in Shopify
Every block shows only after you add it in Shopify's checkout and accounts editor, Product reviews on items and Review order action included. In the Apps section, click the + icon next to a block and select the pages it goes on. For Reviews page, click Accounts under Add page to. Shopify doesn't put the page in your customer account menu: click Add to menu to link it there. See Shopify's help on customizing customer accounts.
In Shopify's editor, every block shows sample data, so you can see what customers get before you save. The block names and settings in the editor are in English only.
Block settings
Block settings live in Shopify's checkout and accounts editor. A setting you haven't changed uses its default.
| Setting | Block | Options | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Show the product's rating | Product reviews on items | Show or Hide. Shows the product's average rating and review count, for products with reviews | Show |
| Show where the review stands | Product reviews on items | Show or Hide. Shows a Review product link under each item still waiting for a review, and a Review submitted badge once it has one | Show |
| Review action | Company review banner, Products to review, Reviews page | Stars opens the review form with the tapped rating already chosen. Button opens it with no rating | Stars |
With both settings of Product reviews on items set to Hide, the block shows nothing.
Which purchases customers can review
The account blocks offer a product for review when all of these are true:
- The item is fulfilled. Delivery isn't needed. In a partly fulfilled order, the items that shipped can be reviewed.
- The item is still on the order. Removed items aren't offered.
- The item is matched to an active product in your catalog
- The product isn't on your review blocklist
- The customer hasn't reviewed the product yet, from any order and in any variant. A review in any status counts, rejected ones included, so a repeat purchase doesn't ask again.
The invitation to review your store shows when the customer has at least one order synced to Cevoid and hasn't written a company review. Once they write one, it disappears.
The blocks don't use the rules that decide who gets a review request: when Reviews was activated, your monthly order limit, and marketing consent. So a customer can see older synced purchases that never got a request email.
Products to review looks through the customer's 200 newest orders. The profile blocks show 5 products or reviews at first, the Reviews page shows 10, and Show more adds 10.
Localization
The blocks show in the language of the customer's account. Edit their text in Settings → Translations: open a language, and select Shopify Customer Accounts under Reviews in the area menu. A language with no translation shows English. See Translations.
Each review link opens your store in the market of the order, so the review form and the review use that market's language.
Customer experience
This is what a customer sees when they're logged in to their Shopify customer account.
- On an order: Under each item, the product's stars and rating, and Review product, or Review submitted once they've reviewed it. The order's action menu has Review order.
- On their profile or the Reviews page: Write a store review and Products to review, with five stars or a button on each row
- Starting a review: Tapping a star, Review product, Review order, or Write a review opens your store in a new tab, with your review form open and the customer already signed in. A tapped star skips the rating step.
- Writing it: The customer writes the review in the form. It's saved to their profile and goes to moderation as pending, like every review. See Review forms.
- Afterwards: The review shows under My reviews, newest first, with the customer's other reviews. Tapping one opens it in full, with its photos and answers. Customers don't see whether a review is pending, published, or rejected.
Reviews written from the account show as Storefront review in your review lists. They're Verified buyer when an order with the customer's email contains the product: see Verified reviews.
Limits
- A customer with no profile in Cevoid sees nothing in the blocks. Cevoid finds the profile by their Shopify customer ID or their email, and never creates one from the account.
- A block that can't load shows nothing, with no error message
- The stars use Shopify's own icons and color, not your BrandKit
