Purchase incentives

Reward members with points for their purchases, and choose which parts of an order count and when orders are processed.

Purchase incentives reward members with points based on their purchases. Set up points per amount spent and apply tier multipliers to give higher-tier members bonus points. Purchases made in other currencies are automatically converted using the exchange rate at the time of the order.

Navigate to Loyalty → Purchase incentives to manage your purchase incentives.

Your purchase settings apply to every purchase incentive and to tier milestones: which parts of an order count, when orders are processed, and how long Cevoid waits first.

Which orders earn points

Cevoid processes the orders that reach it through order sync for points and tier milestones. To check that order sync is set up and orders arrive for each store and market, see Order settings. An order earns points and counts toward tier milestones when:

  • The buyer is a program member when the order is processed. Joining the program later doesn't earn points for earlier orders.
  • The order isn't part of an imported order history. Imported orders never earn points: see Import order history.
  • For points, a points per amount spent incentive is live. The Amount spent and Orders tier milestones count the order without one.

Incentive types

Click New incentive to create a purchase incentive. Two types are available:

TypeDescription
Points per amount spentReward points based on purchase amount
Tier multiplierMultiplier applied to purchases based on a specific tier

New incentives start as drafts. Click Set live when it's ready, and confirm. Members then earn points from it on all future purchases.

Points per amount spent

Reward members with points based on how much they spend.

Points per amount spent settings

These settings determine how the purchase incentive is presented in program widgets.

SettingDescription
TitleRead-only. The name displayed to members, generated from your reward settings so members see the correct points and currency for their market
DescriptionOptional description, at most 150 characters
Custom iconUpload a custom icon (recommended 256×256 px)

Reward

Set how many points are awarded per unit of your workspace's default currency. The setting label reflects your currency, for example Points earned per USD or Points earned per SEK. A new incentive starts at 1 point. The value is 0.1 or more, with up to two decimals.

This section includes a table that shows how the reward applies across your markets based on today's exchange rates (Today's conversions), and how points are displayed to members in each market (Localized points). With one market, the columns are Points and Displayed as. The localized title and points value are shown to members in your program widgets based on their market.

Note:

The table shows today's exchange rates for preview purposes. Actual points are calculated using the exchange rate at the time of each purchase.

Points per amount spent dates

SettingDescription
Start dateWhen the purchase incentive becomes active
Select an end dateOptional end date for the purchase incentive

Only one purchase incentive of this type can be live at a time. If there is a date conflict, Cevoid alerts you and shows which purchase incentives conflict. End the existing one or set an end date on it to resolve the conflict.

Note:

You can change the points value while the purchase incentive is a draft, or live with no rewarded orders yet. Once an order has been rewarded, the value is locked: end the incentive and create a new one.

Tier multiplier

Multiply the points members earn from purchases based on their tier.

Tier multiplier settings

These settings determine how the purchase incentive is presented in program widgets.

SettingDescription
TitleRead-only. The name displayed to members, generated from the tier
DescriptionOptional description, at most 150 characters. Prefilled with the multiplier, such as "Earn 2x points on purchases"
Custom iconUpload a custom icon (recommended 256×256 px)

Multiplier settings

SettingDescription
TierThe tier this multiplier applies to, from your live and draft tiers
MultiplierThe multiplier applied to points earned (e.g., 1.5 = 50% more points). Default 1, between 1 and 100

The multiplier is applied based on the member's tier when the order is processed, not when it's placed. See when orders are processed in Order processing timing.

A tier multiplier only works while a points per amount spent incentive is live and its tier is live. Otherwise its status is Inactive, and its tooltip says why.

Tier multiplier dates

SettingDescription
Start dateWhen the purchase incentive becomes active
Select an end dateOptional end date for the purchase incentive

Only one tier multiplier can be active per tier at a time. If there is a date conflict with an existing multiplier for the same tier, Cevoid alerts you and shows which purchase incentives conflict.

Note:

You can change the multiplier value while the purchase incentive is a draft, or live with no rewarded orders yet. Once an order has been rewarded, the value is locked: end the incentive and create a new one.

Resolve a date conflict

When the dates of a purchase incentive overlap another one of the same type, or another tier multiplier for the same tier, the settings show Conflicting dates. It lists the conflicting incentives with their start and end dates, and Set live is disabled until the conflict is resolved.

  1. Navigate to Loyalty → Purchase incentives and open the purchase incentive
  2. Select a date range in Available dates under Conflicting dates, and click Set dates. For an incentive with no end date, click Set start date to start it on the next available date.
  3. Click Save changes

You can also change the dates on the conflicting incentive instead.

Purchase incentives page

Loyalty → Purchase incentives displays key metrics and all your purchase incentives. Its header has Orders, which opens the Orders page, Settings, which opens your purchase settings, and New incentive. When order sync needs attention or is still waiting for its first order, an alert below the header says so, with Review order settings, which opens Settings → Orders.

The summary section shows Orders, Points rewarded, Participants, Orders per member, and Active purchase incentives.

The table lists all your purchase incentives with their Name, Status, Type, Start Date, and End Date. Use the tabs to filter by All, Live, Drafts, Paused, or Ended. Besides Draft, Live, Paused, and Ended, an incentive can show Scheduled (live, with a start date in the future) or Inactive (a tier multiplier that can't apply, see Tier multiplier).

Manage purchase incentives

  1. Navigate to Loyalty → Purchase incentives
  2. Open a purchase incentive and click More to access additional actions:

Purchase settings

Purchase settings apply to every purchase incentive and to the Amount spent and Orders tier milestones: which parts of an order count, when Cevoid processes an order, and how long it waits first. Navigate to Settings → Loyalty → Purchase incentives to manage them. Settings on Loyalty → Purchase incentives opens the same page.

The Summary panel next to the settings shows how your current configuration affects an example order.

Order value calculation

The What parts of an order should be included? setting controls which parts of the order value count toward points and tier milestones. By default, Subtotal and Exclude amount from discount coupons are on.

OptionDescription
SubtotalAlways included. The product prices after any discounts have been applied.
Exclude amount from discount couponsDiscount coupons don't add to the value that should be rewarded, so points use the amount after discounts. Turn it off to count the amount before discounts. On by default.
Include shippingAdd shipping costs to the value that should be rewarded.
Include taxesAdd tax amounts to the value that should be rewarded. With Include shipping on, all taxes count, including tax on shipping. Without it, only the taxes on items count.

Order processing timing

The When should orders be processed? setting determines when Cevoid processes orders for points and tier progress. The default is When the order is paid in full.

OptionDescription
When the order is paid in fullOrders are processed as soon as they are marked as fully paid in your store.
When the order is fulfilledOrders are processed when marked as fulfilled in your store. A partly fulfilled order is processed once all of it is fulfilled.

Delay order processing

The Delay order processing until setting adds a delay between when the order meets the processing condition and when it's processed. Enter 0 to 120 days after the order is paid in full or fulfilled, depending on your processing timing. The default is 0. Until the delay has passed, the order's points and its progress toward Amount spent and Orders milestones are pending.

Tip:

Set the delay to match your return window. For example, if you offer 30-day returns, set a 30-day delay so orders are only rewarded after the return window closes.

Change your purchase settings

  1. Navigate to Settings → Loyalty → Purchase incentives
  2. Select the parts of an order to include under What parts of an order should be included?
  3. Select an option in When should orders be processed?
  4. Optional: Enter a number of days in Delay order processing until
  5. Click Save changes

Returns

When an order is partially or fully refunded, Cevoid automatically:

  • Deducts the points for the refunded amount from the member's balance
  • Reduces their tier milestone progress by the refunded amount
  • Downgrades their tier if they no longer qualify

A full refund takes back everything the order earned. A partial refund takes back only the refunded part: if a member returns one item from a multi-item order, only that item's value is removed from their points and tier progress.

Cevoid never deducts more points than the order earned. If the member's balance can't cover the deduction, Cevoid deducts what's there, and the balance doesn't go below zero. For how tier downgrades from returns differ from evaluation downgrades, see Tiers.

See the points for an order

Each order shows the points it earned, part by part, when you open it in Orders. Orders on Loyalty → Purchase incentives opens the same page.

On an order that earned points, Point conversion shows the points per currency unit applied, and Summary shows the points for each part of the order, Excluded for the parts left out of the points, the tier multiplier, and the points taken back for refunds. For everything else an order shows, see What an order shows.

An older purchase with no order on the Orders page opens with the earlier summary instead, with Purchase, Refunds, and Total. Click Show detailed breakdown to see Subtotal after discount coupons, Discount coupon, Shipping, Taxes, and Total, with the parts left out of the points marked Excluded. Click Open order to view the order in your ecommerce system.

Which parts of an order are included or excluded from points calculations is set in Order value calculation.
