Report requirements

Set up the session tracking, order data, and sales tracking that reports need before they can show every metric.

Some reports need data that Cevoid only has once you set something up, such as orders from your store or sales tracking on your checkout. Report requirements show what each report needs, what's missing, and how to set it up.

Navigate to Analytics → Reports → Setup guide to see and set up your report requirements. There's no Analytics page in Settings: all analytics setup happens in the Report requirements dialog.

How report requirements work

Each metric and breakdown can depend on data that needs setup. Cevoid works out what a report needs from its metrics, breakdowns, and filters, and flags the report until that setup is done.

  • Reports list: a Setup required badge marks reports with missing setup. Hover over it to see what's missing, or click it to open the Report requirements dialog with only those requirements. A Partially setup badge means sales tracking covers some of your stores or markets, but not all.
  • Report builder: a warning icon appears next to each metric, breakdown, or table column that needs setup. When the charted metric needs setup, the chart is replaced by a message that names the missing requirements and a Set up button. A table still shows the columns it can.
  • Dashboards: panels show the same warnings as the reports they hold

When only a breakdown or a metric that isn't charted needs setup, the report still runs and shows a warning.

Open the Report requirements dialog

The Report requirements dialog shows one card per requirement, with its status, a description, and numbered steps. Opened from Setup guide, it shows every requirement that has steps. Opened from a badge, a warning icon, or Set up, it shows only what that report is missing.

  1. Navigate to Analytics → Reports
  2. Click Setup guide next to Create report. The Report requirements dialog opens.
  3. Optional: Share the link Analytics → Reports → Setup guide with the teammate or developer who does the setup. It opens the dialog directly.

Each requirement shows one of these statuses:

StatusMeaning
CompletedThe requirement is met
Partially setupOnly for sales tracking, when some of your stores or markets have it and others don't
Not completedThe requirement isn't met, and reports that need it show Setup required

What Partially setup means for your numbers

Sales tracking shows Partially setup when it covers some of your stores or markets, but not all:

  • On Shopify: some stores have the checkout web pixel enabled, and others don't
  • On other platforms: some markets had a sale in the last month, and others didn't

In the reports list, reports that depend on sales tracking get a green Partially setup badge. Hover over it to see each store as Enabled or Not enabled, or each market as Verified or Not verified. These reports may be missing orders and revenue from the stores or markets without tracking.

The badge shows on reports with attributed orders, and on reports with order data metrics while your workspace has no synced orders. To complete the setup, follow Set up sales tracking for the remaining stores or markets.

Session tracking

Session tracking lets Cevoid link a visitor's events into one session with the ca_session cookie. Post reach and Post clappers need it, because they count unique visitors. Attribution depends on it too: only events with the session cookie can be linked to an order.

The session tracking requirement shows Completed as soon as session tracking is enabled. Cevoid doesn't check that events arrive.

To set it up, add the cookie to your cookie policy and enable the switch, as described in Enable session tracking.

Order data

Order data is the orders in Cevoid from either source: orders synced from a connected store, orders reported by sales tracking, or both. Each order counts once.

These metrics need order data: Orders, Customers, Order value, Average order value, Order membership rate, Lifetime order frequency, Trailing 12-month order frequency, Customers (lifetime), and Orders (lifetime).

The order data requirement shows Completed when your workspace has synced orders or sales tracking. To meet it, do one of these:

Synced orders

Synced orders are the orders your connected store sends to Cevoid. They carry the order details that sales tracking alone doesn't.

These metrics need synced orders: Gross sales, Net sales, Average net sales per order, Revenue return rate, Item return rate, Average items per order, Customer lifetime value, Gross sales (lifetime), and Net sales (lifetime).

Shopify and WooCommerce stores sync orders to Cevoid once Sync orders is on in Settings → Orders. New workspaces start with it off. Mystore stores sync orders once connected, and orders sent to Cevoid through the Cevoid API count as synced orders too. Sales metrics show data as soon as the first order arrives.

Connect a store that syncs orders

  1. Navigate to Analytics → Reports → Setup guide
  2. Click Go to integrations under Synced orders
  3. Connect your store, as described in Shopify or WooCommerce
  4. Enable Sync orders in Settings → Orders, as described in Turn on order sync
  5. Navigate back to Analytics → Reports → Setup guide after the first order has synced
  6. Click Check status. Synced orders and Order data show Completed.

Sales tracking

Sales tracking reports each completed order from your checkout to Cevoid, together with the visitor's session. This is what lets Cevoid attribute orders and revenue to your content (see Attribution).

Sales tracking is needed for Orders, Order value, Average order value, and Customers when a report breaks them down or filters them by Post or Post label, or filters them by UGC conversion type. The Is UGC-attributed and UGC conversion types breakdowns need it too.

How you set it up depends on your workspace's platform. In a Shopify workspace, the dialog shows the checkout web pixel. In every other workspace, it shows the analytics SDK.

Warning:

Use one sales tracking method for the same orders. Cevoid removes duplicate orders by order ID, but the checkout web pixel and a sales tracking call identify the same order differently, so running both counts each order twice.

Set up sales tracking

On Shopify, sales tracking is Cevoid's checkout web pixel. Shopify runs it when a customer completes checkout, and it reports the order to Cevoid. Enable it on each store you want to track.

  1. Navigate to Analytics → Reports → Setup guide
  2. Click Enable next to the store under Enable checkout web pixel. The store shows Enabled.
  3. Repeat for each connected store
  4. Click Check status under Check sales tracking. Each store with the pixel shows Verified.

If the Insufficient Access Permissions dialog opens instead, Cevoid's access to your store doesn't include the two Shopify permissions the pixel needs. The dialog lists them under Access scopes missing: read_customer_events and write_pixels. Click Update access scopes, approve the added permissions in Shopify, and then click Enable next to the store again.

On Shopify, Check status and Completed confirm that the pixel is installed on the store, not that sales have arrived. Shopify runs the pixel only for customers whose consent allows it: see Consent on Shopify checkout.

To stop tracking a store, click ... next to Enabled and select Disable web pixel.

Note:

This setup needs access to your site's code. If you don't edit it yourself, share these steps with your developer.

On platforms other than Shopify, sales tracking is a sales tracking call on your order confirmation page, sent with Cevoid's analytics SDK. The Report requirements dialog shows the code for each step.

  1. Navigate to Analytics → Reports → Setup guide
  2. Install the analytics SDK on your site with the CDN script tag, the npm package, or the React entry point. See Installation in the developer docs.
  3. Initialize the SDK with your workspace's publishable key. The code under Initialize the SDK already contains it.
  4. Add a sales tracking call to your order confirmation page that sends each completed order. See Track sales in the developer docs.
  5. Click Check status under Check sales tracking after the first tracked sale. Each market with a sale in the last month shows Verified.

Enable session tracking in the SDK on the order confirmation page too, so the visitor's session cookie is kept, not deleted. See Set up session tracking in the developer docs.

On these platforms, Check status looks for sales: each market shows Verified when Cevoid received a sale from it in the last month. A market with no sale in the last month shows Not verified, even when tracking is installed correctly. Cevoid assigns each sale to the market sent with it, or else to the market of the page URL, or else to your default market.

The status can be up to 5 minutes old. Click Check status to refresh it.

Instagram account

The metrics in the Instagram UGC category need a connected Instagram account. So do the Instagram account, Instagram source type, Instagram post type, Hashtag, Instagram request method, and Instagram post access method breakdowns.

The Report requirements dialog doesn't list this requirement. On a report that needs it, hover over the Setup required badge to see what's missing: Requires a connected Instagram account to show Instagram analytics. To meet it, connect an Instagram account, as described in Instagram.

Product brands, collections, and categories

The Product brand, Product collection, and Product category breakdowns need brands, collections, and categories in your product catalog. Product brand works once a product in your default market has a brand, Product collection once one is in a collection, and Product category once one has a category. Until then, a report broken down by one of them shows Setup required, and the report builder shows a warning icon next to the breakdown. The report still runs.

The Report requirements dialog doesn't list these requirements. Hover over the Setup required badge or the warning icon to see what's missing, such as Requires brands in your product catalogue to break analytics down by product brand. To meet them, add brands, collections, or categories to your products in your store or product feed. Cevoid picks them up at the next product sync: see Brands, collections, and categories. From WooCommerce, Cevoid syncs categories, not brands or collections.
