Review widget settings

Every setting of each review widget type, with its options, its default, and what each template changes.

Each review widget type has its own settings, in the Widget tab of the widget editor. This page lists every setting with its options and default, and what each template changes. To create a widget and choose its reviews, see Review widgets.

The defaults below are where a setting starts unless the widget's template changes it. Each widget type ends with what its templates change.

Settings on every widget

Every review widget has a color scheme, some settings can differ per device, and a header's title and description can name the page's product, collection, category, or brand.

Color scheme

Color scheme sits at the top of the Widget tab, above the settings groups, once your workspace has a BrandKit. It sets the colors of the whole widget, its section band included, from one of your BrandKit's color schemes. A widget starts on your default scheme, and the collection, category, and brand templates start on the secondary scheme. Edit scheme opens the scheme in BrandKit, and Change picks another.

Settings per device

Layout, Initial items, Padding, and Title size can have a different value on tablet and mobile. Click + next to the setting's name and select Tablet or Mobile. To go back to the desktop value, remove the override.

A widget picks its device settings by its own width on the page, not by the screen: up to 640 px wide it uses its mobile settings, up to 1,024 px its tablet settings, and above that its desktop settings. A widget in a narrow column uses its mobile settings on a desktop screen.

Options that don't fit the rest of the settings are greyed out with the reason, such as Only for the carousel layout. When you save, Cevoid adjusts settings that no longer fit together: a Left header arrangement without a carousel becomes Stacked, and a load-more Button on a carousel becomes Infinite.

Variables in titles and descriptions

A header's Title and Description can hold variables, which each page fills in. Click the variables icon next to the field to see the Available variables for the widget, and click one to copy it.

VariableShowsAvailable on
{{productName}}The product's nameProduct page widgets
{{collectionName}}The collection's nameCollection widgets
{{categoryName}}The category's nameCategory widgets
{{brandName}}The brand's nameBrand widgets
{{ratingValue}}The average rating, with one decimal, in the market's number formatEvery widget with a header

Names come from the shopper's market, such as the Swedish product title on a Swedish storefront. A variable with no value on a page, such as {{ratingValue}} before the first rating, is left out on your store, so shoppers never see it. When a field holds a variable the widget can't fill, a note under the field says Left out on this widget.

Review lists

A review list shows review cards in a band of its own, with an optional heading, rating summary, highlights, and controls for shoppers. It loads as many reviews at a time as its Initial items, 10 by default.

Review list section

The section is the band the review list sits in. The band takes its colors from the widget's color scheme.

SettingOptionsDefault
SectionOn or off. Off shows the widget bare, with no band, max width, or paddingOn
WidthFixed or FullFixed
Max width320 to 2,400 px, with Width on Fixed1,200 px
PaddingVertical and horizontal, 0 to 200 px each. Can differ per device60 px vertical, 30 px horizontal

Review list header

The header holds the review list's title, and decides where it sits.

SettingOptionsDefault

Review list summaries

The summaries are the rating summary and highlights above the reviews, set under Summaries in the Header group. They need the Stacked arrangement.

SettingOptionsDefault
LayoutNone, Carousel, or Sidebar. Sidebar isn't available with the Carousel layoutCarousel

A carousel shows 2 summaries side by side from 720 px of widget width. A sidebar needs 880 px, and shows as a carousel in a narrower widget.

Review list filters

The filters are the controls shoppers use to search, sort, and filter the reviews. None of them are available with the Left header arrangement, or when the header holds the carousel navigation. Search, sort, and filters aren't available with the Ticker layout either.

SettingOptionsDefault
SearchOn or offOn
Search widthCompact or Full widthCompact
SortOn or offOn
FiltersOn or off. Options picks the filters shoppers get: Rating, Media, Verified, Language, and QuestionsOn, with all 5 options
ActionNone or Write review, at the end of the row. Write review needs a product page widgetNone

Shoppers see the options as the stars, Photos & videos, Verified purchases, Original language, and one section for each review question they can filter by. Original language only shows when the reviews are in more than one language. The order the list starts in is the widget's Default order, in the Content tab.

With Questions on, a public review question becomes a filter when shoppers pick from set answers: Single select, Multi select, Would recommend, and Centered range questions with a label on every step, such as the Fit template. Scale questions, which label only their ends, and Numeric questions can't be filtered. Each filter only offers the answers given in the widget's own reviews. Answers to one question widen the results, and answers to different questions narrow them, up to 20 answers at once.

Review list layout

Layout sets how the review cards are arranged: Grid, Masonry, Carousel, Ticker, or List. It can differ per device, and starts on Grid. Each layout's settings open from the settings button next to it, such as Carousel settings.

Initial items, under Layout, sets how many reviews the first load shows, and how many each load after it adds: 1 to 100, 10 by default. It can differ per device, so a grid can end on a full row on every screen.

A ticker, and a carousel that plays on its own, show only the first load, as many reviews as Initial items. Search, sort, and filters aren't available on a ticker. For shoppers who turn on reduced motion, tickers stand still and carousels don't play on their own.

Review cards

The card settings, under Items, decide what each review card shows.

SettingOptionsDefault
StyleSimple or Detailed. Detailed cards add the reviewer's answers to your review questions and your public replySimple
CardElevated, with a background, border, and shadow, or Flat, on the page's own backgroundElevated
Max text lines1 to 20 lines of text before read more6
FieldsA switch for each part of the card: Avatar, Media, Verified badge, Date, Product (product reviews only), Helpful votes, and Report button. Detailed cards add Question answers, Recommendation, and Your replyAll on

Helpful votes and Report button can only hide what your moderation settings turn on. When votes or reports are off there, the switch is locked, with Helpful votes are off in Reviews settings or Review reports are off in Reviews settings. No setting hides the Incentivized and Insider disclosures.

Load more decides how shoppers get past the first load of reviews.

SettingOptionsDefault
Load moreNone, Button, or Infinite, which loads more as shoppers scroll, or as they reach a carousel's last slideButton
Button stylePrimary, Secondary, or Ghost, with ButtonSecondary
Button labelYour text, with ButtonSee more reviews

Button isn't available on a carousel. Tickers and carousels that play on their own don't load more, so they don't show this group.

Review list visibility

Visibility decides what a review list shows until it has enough ratings. The count includes star-only ratings, across all the widget's reviews before shoppers filter them.

SettingOptionsDefault

AI summaries

An AI summary shows the AI-written paragraph about what reviewers say, with AI-generated summary under it, which no setting removes. It has no Visibility group: the widget shows nothing until a summary exists. A summary needs 30 published reviews with text, and is updated at most once every 7 days: see Reviews AI. The editor previews a sample paragraph until then.
