Review widgets
Create widgets that show your product and company reviews, star ratings, and review summaries on your store.
Review widgets show your reviews and ratings on your store: review lists, carousels, and walls, star ratings, rating summaries, AI summaries, and summaries of your review questions. Each widget shows either product reviews or company reviews.
Navigate to Reviews → On-site widgets to manage your review widgets.
| Widget type | What shoppers see | Placement |
|---|---|---|
| Review list | Review cards in a grid, masonry, carousel, ticker, or list, with a rating summary, search, sort, and filters | Section |
| Star rating | Stars, the average rating, and the number of ratings | Element |
| Rating summary | The average rating, stars, and a bar for each star rating | Element |
| AI summary | A paragraph written by AI about what reviewers say | Element |
| Question summary | A summary of reviewers' answers to your product questions, such as fit | Element |
A section is a band of its own on the page. An element is a compact block that sits inside a section, such as under the product title.
Review widget templates
Every review widget starts from a template, which decides its type, whether it shows product or company reviews, and whether it's dynamic. None of these can change later. A dynamic widget, marked Dynamic, fills itself from the page it's on, so one widget serves every product page. Curated widgets show the reviews you select, on any page.
Product reviews:
| Template | Type | Reviews of | Made for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dynamic Product Reviews | Review list | The product on the page | Product pages |
| Dynamic Collection Product Reviews | Review list | The products in the collection on the page | Collection pages |
| Dynamic Category Product Reviews | Review list | The products in the page's category, or the product's category | Product and category pages |
| Dynamic Brand Product Reviews | Review list | The products of the page's brand, or the product's brand | Product and brand pages |
| Dynamic Product Rating | Star rating | The product on the page | Under the product title |
| Dynamic Product Rating Summary | Rating summary | The product on the page | Beside the product title |
| Dynamic Product AI Summary | AI summary | The product on the page | High up on product pages |
| Dynamic Product Question Summary | Question summary | The product on the page | Beside the variant picker |
| Product AI Summary of Selected Reviews | AI summary | The product reviews you select | Any page |
| Product Review Highlights Carousel | Review list | The product reviews you select | The homepage |
| Product Reviews Ticker Wall | Review list | The product reviews you select | A reviews page or the homepage |
Company reviews: All company templates are curated.
| Template | Type | Made for |
|---|---|---|
| All Company Reviews | Review list | A reviews page or an About page |
| Company Rating | Star rating | The header or footer |
| Company Rating Summary | Rating summary | Any page |
| Company AI Summary | AI summary | An About page |
| Company Review Highlights Carousel | Review list | The homepage |
| Company Reviews Ticker Wall | Review list | Any page |
Curated templates start with all your reviews, except the carousels and ticker walls, which start with 4 and 5 stars. Each template also has its own starting settings: see Review widget settings.
How review widgets work
Review widgets follow these rules:
- One review type: A widget shows product reviews or company reviews, never both
- Published reviews only: Pending, rejected, and hidden reviews never show. Reviews are hidden when you hide a product's existing reviews with the review blocklist, and when a product leaves your catalog.
- Every market: A widget shows reviews from all your markets, in the shopper's language
- Star-only ratings: Reviews with stars and no text, title, or visible photos or videos count toward a widget's average and number of ratings, but widgets don't list them
On Reviews → On-site widgets, your widgets are grouped in Product reviews and Company reviews. Each card shows Section or Element, Dynamic for dynamic widgets, and Live or Not live: see Check that a widget is live.
Create a review widget
Create a review widget from a template. Cevoid creates it as soon as you click the template, with the template's settings.
- Navigate to Reviews → On-site widgets and click New widget
- Select Product reviews or Company reviews under Templates
- Optional: Select Section or Element, or search, to narrow the list
- Click a template. The new widget opens in the editor, named after its template.
Until you have a widget of their kind, some templates also show on the page as Suggested. Click Add widget on one to create it. To change the widget, see Edit a review widget. To add it to your store, see Embed review widgets.
Edit a review widget
The review widget editor shows a live preview beside the settings: at desktop, tablet, and mobile sizes for sections, and in one frame for elements.
- Navigate to Reviews → On-site widgets and open the widget
- Click Widget to change how the widget looks. Every setting is in Review widget settings.
- Click Content to choose which reviews the widget shows, and in what order
- Optional: Select a language at the top of the editor to preview that market's language
- Optional: Select Test data at the top of the editor to preview sample reviews
- Click Save changes. The widget updates on your store right away.
Test data shows sample reviews from a demo store, Void & Oak. The editor opens on it until you have reviews of the widget's type, and on Real data after that.
Choose which reviews a widget shows
A review widget's Content tab decides which reviews it shows, depending on its template.
| Widget | Which reviews |
|---|---|
| Product page widgets | Every published review of the product on the page. Click Choose product to preview one |
| Collection, category, and brand widgets | Every published review of the products in the collection, category, or brand on the page |
| Curated widgets | All reviews, or a Filtered selection |
Review lists also have a Default order: Latest (the default), Oldest, Highest rated, Lowest rated, or Most helpful. When a shopper picks an order in Sort by, theirs replaces yours.
Pinned reviews
On product page widgets, pinned reviews come first, newest pin first, until a shopper picks an order. Shoppers see a pin icon on them. Pin up to 5 reviews per product from the review's menu: see Review details. Pins belong to the product, so Unpin in a widget's Content tab unpins the review everywhere.
Filter a curated widget
Filter a curated widget to show only some reviews, such as 4 and 5 stars on the homepage.
- Navigate to Reviews → On-site widgets and open the widget
- Click Content
- Select Filtered selection under Which reviews
- Add filters. The count below them shows how many reviews match.
- Click Save changes
Filter by rating, sentiment, emotions, media, source, verification, reply, language, labels, profile, or creation date. To pick reviews by hand, give them a review label and filter by it.
A curated widget's rating and summary describe only its selection. A Company Rating widget filtered to 4 and 5 stars shows the average of those reviews, not your store's overall average.
Rename, duplicate, or delete a review widget
Manage a review widget from its menu: right-click its card on Reviews → On-site widgets, or click More in the editor.
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Rename | Opens Rename widget. Enter a name and click Save changes |
| Embed | Card menu only: opens Embed widget. See Embed review widgets |
| Duplicate | Creates and opens a copy with the same settings and content, named after the original plus (copy). The copy has its own widget ID, so embed it again |
| Delete | Deletes the widget after you confirm |
Delete a review widget
- Navigate to Reviews → On-site widgets
- Right-click the widget's card
- Select Delete
- Click Delete widget to confirm
Deleting a review widget can't be undone. It stops showing on your store, also where it's still embedded.
Localization
Review widgets show in the language of the market a shopper visits: Cevoid's own text, the text you enter in a widget's settings, the reviews and your public replies, and dates and numbers. A translated review is marked Translated from its language, with a Show original link. Cevoid translates its own text into Arabic, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Norwegian Bokmål, Polish, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Swedish, Traditional Chinese, and Turkish. When a language has no translation for a text, the widget shows it in English.
To check or change translations, navigate to Settings → Translations and click Localize on a language. Widget text is under Customer-facing texts, in On-site widgets (Reviews), and review translations are under Reviews. See Translations.
Styling
Review widgets take their fonts, colors, stars, cards, and popups from your BrandKit. Each widget picks one of your BrandKit color schemes in Color scheme, at the top of the Widget tab: see Color scheme.
Customer experience
Shoppers see review widgets as part of your page, as their settings decide.
Review cards
Shoppers see each review as a card. Detailed cards add the reviewer's answers and your reply to what simple cards show.
| Part | What shoppers see |
|---|---|
| Review | The stars, title, and text. Long text ends in read more |
| Reviewer | Their name and photo, or initials. Reviews without a public name show Anonymous |
| Verification | Verified buyer or Verified identity. See Verified reviews |
| Photos and videos | Up to 3 thumbnails, with +N for more |
| Product | On product reviews, the product, linked to its page |
| Disclosures | Incentivized or Insider, when your team marked the review so. Widget settings can't hide them |
| Date | When the review was published, and Updated on on hover after an edit |
| Answers | Answers to your review questions, such as the size bought. Detailed cards only |
| Your reply | Your public reply, under Reply from and the sender's name. Detailed cards only |
Words your moderation settings mask show as asterisks. Clicking read more or a thumbnail opens the review in a popup.
Rating summary and highlights
A review list can open with its rating summary and highlights, in a carousel or a sidebar:
- Rating summary: The average, stars, and a bar per star rating. Clicking a bar shows only that rating. When some ratings have no text, it reads, for example, 12 ratings · 9 reviews.
- Breakdown: The answers to your product questions, once a question has 2 answers
- What people say: The AI summary, marked AI-generated summary, once one exists. See Reviews AI.
- Media: The newest photos and videos from reviews
Browse reviews
Shoppers narrow a review list with Search reviews, Sort by, and Filter, which covers stars, Original language, Photos & videos, Verified purchases, and review questions with set answers, such as Fit: see Review list filters. Review lists load as many reviews at a time as the widget's Initial items, 10 by default, with a See more reviews button or as shoppers scroll. Tickers have no search, sort, or filters, and tickers and self-playing carousels show only the first load.
Popups
The All reviews popup shows all of a widget's reviews, with search, sort, filters, and the highlights. It opens from a star rating set to open a popup, from See all and Read more in a review list's highlights, and from a link: see Open reviews from a link. A star rating can instead scroll to the review list on the page. On phones, a centered popup opens as a sheet from the bottom, and one set to open from the side fills the screen: see Popups.
Helpful votes and reports
Shoppers vote on whether a review helped, once per device and with no account. To report a review, they click Report, pick a reason, and click Submit report, and the report reaches your team. Shoppers can't vote on or report their own review. Both are set for all widgets in Settings → Reviews → Moderation: see Moderation.
Empty widgets
Until it has enough ratings, a widget stays hidden or shows its empty state, as its settings say. A review list's empty state reads No reviews yet, with a Write a review button on product page widgets. With ratings but no written reviews, it shows the rating summary and No written reviews yet. On a product on your review blocklist with no ratings, product page widgets show nothing.
Accessibility
Review widgets carry labels for screen readers. For shoppers who turn on reduced motion, tickers stand still and carousels don't play on their own.
