UGC analytics

Measure your UGC: posts, how visitors interact with them, Instagram, upload forms, creators, and the orders your content leads to.

UGC analytics covers everything you can measure about your user-generated content: the posts in your library, how visitors interact with them in galleries, cards, and the post popup, Instagram content and rights requests, upload forms, the creators behind your content, and the orders your content leads to.

In the report builder, these metrics are under UGC, Widgets, and Sales. How to read these tables, and how breakdowns and filters work, is in How metrics work. Every metric can also be broken down by Date.

Start with the defaults

  • The UGC Overview dashboard is favorited for everyone on your team. It shows your post totals, post performance, conversions over time, content sources, performance by widget, and your top posts. See Dashboards.
  • 58 default UGC reports: 33 on posts and post performance, 4 on widgets, 18 on orders linked to content, and 3 on upload forms. See Reports.
  • Four funnels: see Funnel reports
FunnelSteps
Post interaction funnelPost impressions, Post popup impressions, Post clicks, Post product tag clicks, Orders
Instagram post lifecycle funnelInstagram posts detected, Instagram posts accessed
Instagram request funnelInstagram requests sent, Instagram requests declined, Instagram posts accessed
Customer uploads funnelUpload form impressions, Uploads started, Uploads completed

What UGC analytics needs

Most UGC metrics work as soon as your widgets are live. Some need setup first: see Report requirements.

SetupWhat it unlocks
Session trackingPost reach and Post clappers, and linking orders to your content
Sales trackingOrders, order value, and customers linked to your content
A connected Instagram accountThe Instagram UGC metrics and breakdowns
Brands, collections, and categories in your product catalogThe Product brand, Product collection, and Product category breakdowns

Posts

How many posts you have and how that changes. Posts count in every status: Inbox, Approved, and Archived.

MetricWhat it measuresUnitCountsNeeds
Post movementsNet change in number of postsCountIn the period
Total postsTotal number of posts in the workspaceCountRunning total
Percentage of postsShare of total posts that match selected dimension valuesPercentageCalculated

Post movements can be negative, so area charts, stacked bars, and donuts aren't available for it. Status changes, such as approving a post, aren't movements.

A post with several labels or tagged products counts once under each, so those rows can add up to more than the total.

Post performance

How visitors interact with posts in your galleries, cards, and the post detail popup. These are the metrics most UGC reports are built on.

MetricWhat it measuresUnitCountsNeeds
Post impressionsNumber of times a post was viewedCountIn the period
Post popup impressionsNumber of times the post detail popup was viewedCountIn the period
Post clicksNumber of times a post was clicked, opening the post detail popup or linking directly to a productCountIn the period
Post product tag clicksNumber of clicks on product tags within a postCountIn the period
Post reachNumber of unique visitors who viewed the postCountIn the periodSession tracking
Post clapsTotal claps (likes) received on postsCountIn the period
Post clappersNumber of unique visitors who clapped on the postCountIn the periodSession tracking

An impression counts every view, so one visitor scrolling past a post three times counts three. Reach counts unique visitors, as unique sessions, and needs session tracking for Post reach.

Galleries and cards

How often your widgets load and how often visitors see them. These widget metrics cover loyalty program widgets too: filter Module to UGC to see only galleries and cards.

MetricWhat it measuresUnitCountsNeeds
Widget loadsNumber of times a widget was loadedCountIn the period
Widget reachNumber of unique visitors who viewed the widgetCountIn the period
Widget display ratePercentage of visitors who viewed the widget after it loadedPercentageCalculated
Widget impressionsNumber of times a widget was viewedCountIn the period

A widget loads when its content loads on a page, and it's viewed when any part of it is on screen. A gallery further down a page that's never scrolled to counts a load but no impression.

Orders from your content

Orders, Order value, Average order value, and Customers count the orders your content leads to when you break them down or filter them by Post or Post label, or filter them by UGC conversion types or Is UGC-attributed. They then count only orders from sales tracking whose session touched your content before the sale. See Attribution for the full rules.

MetricWhat it measuresUnitCountsNeeds
OrdersNumber of orders: from synced order data where available, otherwise from frontend-attributed order events.CountIn the periodOrder data

Average order valueAverage value of an orderCurrencyCalculatedOrder data
CustomersNumber of unique customers who placed an orderCountIn the periodOrder data
  • Every touched post gets the whole order. An order that touched three posts counts under each of them, with its full value, so rows add up to more than the total.
  • Conversion types: an order counts under every way the visitor interacted before buying: Post impression, Popup view, or Product tag click
  • Profiles: on these orders, Profile, Segment, and the other profile breakdowns describe the creator of the touched post

You can add post performance metrics, such as Post impressions, to the same report, which is how the default conversion reports compare views with orders. Orders linked to content offer only these breakdowns:

Creators

Your creators are the profiles behind your posts. On UGC metrics, the profile breakdowns describe them: Profile, Segment, Profile label, and Profile market show the creator of the post, the author of an Instagram post, or the uploader.
