Review forms
Set up the product and company review forms customers fill in to write a review, and link to them from your store.
Review forms are what customers fill in to write a review. Your workspace has one product review form and one company review form. Both open as a popup on your store, so customers review without leaving your site.
Navigate to Reviews → On-site widgets to edit your review forms. They're under Collection forms.
| Specification | Limit |
|---|---|
| Rating | 1 to 5 stars, required |
| Review text | 1 to 1,500 characters, required |
| Review title | Up to 100 characters, off by default |
| Photos | .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .webp |
| Videos | .mp4, .mov, .webm |
| File size | 1 GB per file |
| Photos and videos per review | Up to the form's Max files: 1 to 10, 3 by default |
How review forms work
Review forms open on your store, wherever a customer starts a review. The Cevoid script must be on the page for a form to open: see Add the Cevoid script.
| Where the customer starts | Form that opens | Customer confirms their email |
|---|---|---|
| A link in a review request email | The product or company review form, matching the request | No |
| A Write a review button in a product review widget | The product review form | Yes, with a code |
| A link to the form, on your site or in your own emails | The product or company review form | Yes, with a code |
| A block in their Shopify customer account | The product or company review form | No |
After a customer confirms their email, that browser doesn't ask them again for 30 days. See Verified reviews.
Every new review starts as pending. Cevoid analyzes it, and your moderation settings decide whether it publishes on its own or waits for your team.
The form's fonts, colors, and fields come from your BrandKit, and so does where it opens: as a panel from the right by default, or as set under Popups. On phones, a form set to open from the left or right fills the screen, and one set to Center or Bottom opens from the bottom.
One review per customer
A customer can leave one product review per product, across all its variants and your markets, and one company review. When they already have a pending or published review, including one you imported, the form shows You have already reviewed this product or You have already reviewed this store. A rejected review doesn't count, so the customer can write a new one.
Edit a review form
Edit each step of your product review form or company review form in its editor, which shows a live preview of the form.
- Navigate to Reviews → On-site widgets
- Open Product review form or Company review form under Collection forms. The editor opens.
- Select a step in the Steps rail. The preview shows that step.
- Change the step's Title, Description, and settings
- Optional: On the product review form, select Order at the top to preview an order with several products
- Click Save changes
Every step has a Title and a Description, shown at the top of the step. The order of the steps is fixed. Settings apply in every language, and Cevoid translates your copy: see Localization.
| Step | Settings | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Rating | Company review form only: Logo, shown above the stars, and Logo width | Always on. Logo: Workspace |
| Review | Review title: On asks for a title, Off doesn't | Always on. Review title: Off |
| Name | None | Always on |
| Media | Whether the step shows, what it accepts, how many files, and media tips. See Media step settings | On for the product review form, off for the company review form |
| Product questions or Questions | None here. Questions are set up in Review questions | Shows while the form has questions to ask |
| Profile questions | Product review form only. Questions are set up in Review questions | Shows while the reviewer has questions left to answer |
| Summary | None | Always on |
| Thank you | The button and the store prompt. See Thank-you step settings | Always on |
For the Logo, Workspace shows your square workspace logo beside your workspace name, or the name alone when there's no logo. Light shows your light logo, made for dark backgrounds, and Dark your dark logo, made for light backgrounds, when you've uploaded them under Logo in BrandKit. With Light or Dark, Logo width sets how wide the logo shows, from 24 to 400 px.
With Review title on, the form fills the title with the first 30 characters of the review text, cut at a word, until the customer edits it. With it off, reviews have no title.
Media step settings
The media step lets customers add photos and videos to their review. Cevoid checks every file after the review is submitted: see Review details.
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Show step | On adds the step to the form. On by default for the product review form, off for the company review form |
| Accepts | Both, Photos, or Videos. Default: Both |
| Max files | How many photos and videos a customer can add, from 1 to 10. Default: 3 |
| Media tips | On shows a Heading and up to 5 tips beside the uploader, each with an icon. On by default |
New forms start with the heading "Media tips" and three tips: "Show the product clearly", "Avoid other people's faces", and "No offensive content". On the company review form, the first tip is "Show your package or unboxing".
Thank-you step settings
The thank-you step is the last screen of the form. It confirms the review is submitted and can offer the customer more to review.
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Action | What the button does: Closes form or Link. Default: Closes form |
| Link | With Link: the page the button opens, in the same tab, after the form closes. Enter a full web address, such as https://example.com, or the form can't be saved |
| Label | The button's text. Default: Done |
| Prompt to review the store | Product review form only. On offers a company review once every product in the order has been reviewed, if the customer hasn't left one. On by default |
Consent on review forms
Review forms show your Content consent policy from Settings → Legal, the same policy as your upload forms, but in the version for the customer's market. It appears on the Review step, by the button. With no published Content consent policy, the form shows none.
| Policy option | What the customer sees |
|---|---|
| Simple text | Your consent text. Continuing accepts it |
| Checkboxes | Your checkboxes. The customer ticks the required ones before they can continue |
Cevoid stores the policy the reviewer accepted with their review. To write and publish the policy, see Legal policies.
Link to a review form
A link to a review form opens the form on any page of your store, with no widget on the page. Use it on a page of your site or in your own emails. Customers who open the form from a link confirm their email with a code, unless they did on the same browser in the last 30 days.
- Navigate to Reviews → On-site widgets
- Right-click Product review form or Company review form under Collection forms
- Select Embed. You can also click Embed in the form's editor.
- Copy the link under 2. Link to the form, or the part that starts with
?to add to a page you already link to.
| Form | What to add to a page address |
|---|---|
| Product review form | ?cevoid.widget=reviews.product-review&cevoid.product=YOUR_PRODUCT_ID |
| Company review form | ?cevoid.widget=reviews.company-review |
For the product review form, replace YOUR_PRODUCT_ID with the product's SKU or catalog ID. On a product page, leave out &cevoid.product=YOUR_PRODUCT_ID, and the form reads the product from the page address.
The Cevoid script must be on the page the link opens. The embed dialog also checks whether the script is installed on each of your markets.
Localization
Review forms show in the language of the market of the page they open on. When you save a form, Cevoid translates the titles, descriptions, media tips, and button label you wrote into your market languages. Cevoid also provides translations of the form's built-in text, such as Looks good! Submit and error messages. A language without them shows English until you translate it.
Adjust any translation in Settings → Translations. See Translations.
Customer experience
This is what customers see when they write a review in the review form. The header shows which step they're on, such as Step 2 of 6.
| Step | What the customer does |
|---|---|
| Rating | Picks 1 to 5 stars, which moves them on. Skipped when they already picked a star in the request email or their Shopify customer account |
| Review | Writes their review and, when Review title is on, a title. Accepts your content consent, when you have one |
| Name | Enters their name and picks how it shows in public under Show my name as: Full name (default), First name + last initial, First name only, or Anonymous, which makes the name optional |
| Media | Optional: adds photos and videos, up to Max files |
| Product questions or Questions | Optional: answers your review questions |
| Profile questions | Product review form only. Optional: answers questions about themselves |
| Summary | Checks the review as it will look, and clicks Looks good! Submit |
| Verify your email | Only when they need a code: enters their email and the 5-digit code Cevoid sends them. Photos and videos upload after this step |
| Thank you | Reads that the review publishes once it's processed, and can review the rest of the order or your store |
The form keeps what a customer has written while their browser tab stays open, so a page refresh doesn't lose it. If they close the form part way, it asks Discard your review?, with Discard and Keep writing.
Several products from one order
A review request covers every product in the order that the customer can still review. The form takes one product at a time and shows Product 1 of 3. After each review, the thank-you step lists the rest of the order under Review the rest of your order, with finished products marked Already reviewed. Once every product is reviewed, it offers a review of your store, when Prompt to review the store is on. Opening the request link after that shows All products have been reviewed.
Edit or delete a review
Reviewers can change or remove their own review through their personal update link. The thank-you email, when you send one, carries it on its Edit your review button. Your team can copy a review's link from the review: see Review details. Customers can also edit a review from My reviews in their Shopify customer account: see Shopify customer accounts.
- The link opens the review in the form, where the reviewer clicks Update review or Delete review
- An edited review goes back to pending and leaves your store until it's published again
- A reviewer can edit a review 3 times in 24 hours
- Deleting removes the review everywhere it shows, and can't be undone
- The link doesn't expire. After your team resets it, earlier links ask the reviewer for an email code.
- Imported reviews have no update link
